Working together to rescue a colony in a wall cavity for rehoming.
Tree Bee Rescue, working with Southern Water, we able to carefully relocate more than 50,000 honeybees from the water supply works to more suitable surroundings.
The Thames Water team on site called for help after an enormous swarm of honeybees made their hive inside the wall of a site building.
Tree Bee Rescue answered the call to rescue and rehome the colony.

The operational teams on site spotted the bees flying into a small hole in the side of the storeroom wall. Eventually the numbers increased into a motorway of bees flying in and out of their new nest.
After a section of the wall was removed by local contractors, Tree Bee Rescue found the queen bee and transferred her into t temporary hive, along with the honeycombs.
The operation took around three days, starting on a Friday and finishing on the Sunday, It was great work by everyone involved in the safe removal of the bees.
Visit The BeesFollowing their extraction, the bees were placed in a holding area at a Tree Bee Rescue Apiary to regrow. Then, once healthy and ready to be rehomed, the colony was transferred to their new permanent home at Ventnor Botanic Garden.
The Garden have kindly agreed to host the hive, providing a secure and suitable environment for the bees to thrive on the Isle of Wight. By safely rehoming the colony, the project ensures the bees can continue contributing to the local ecosystem.
We run a number of workshops. Contact us for upcoming dates.
Southern Water have been a joy to work with and their support is invaluable. Here is what they have to say:
Our staff recently had an enjoyable experience donning beekeeping protective gear and observing the bees up close in their hives. They also gained insights into the honey production process and beekeeping practices.
Some text in here from someone about either TBR at the garden centre, you saying how great it is to be at the garden centre, or we put a more general testimonial about TBR.
